Aldavilla Primary School Sorry Day assembly

On Friday 26 May 2017, Aldavilla Primary School held the first Sorry Day assembly in the school’s history.

This assembly involved the school’s staff and students. It commenced with an Acknowledgement of Country, followed by the history behind Sorry Day and what it means. We sang the songs ‘Took The Children Away’ and ‘Sorry Song’, and we held a minute’s silence.

The staff and students discussed the meaning of the day and each class wrote messages onto footprints, expressing empathy both verbally and through their written messages. The messages were then displayed in the garden located at the school’s entrance, the footprints representing the track home.

In 2018, we will invite parents, carers and the wider community to join us on National Sorry Day.
